Jakarta, April 21, 2025 — Coinciding with Kartini Day, Open Initiatives Day (OID) made its official debut at Ruang & Tempo Coworking Space, West Jakarta. The inaugural event, themed “Kini Setara” (Now Equal), highlighted the spirit of equality through a thought-provoking book discussion on “Yang Terlupakan dan Dilupakan” (The Forgotten and Erased).

More than 25 participants from diverse backgrounds—including both women and men—gathered to celebrate equality in a reflective and collaborative setting. The event demonstrated that the fight for women’s rights is a shared effort, transcending gender boundaries.

“Open Initiatives Day is about creating space where ideas of goodness can grow and lead to real impact,” said a representative from Ruang & Tempo. “Equality is not just a theme—it’s a collective commitment.”

The launch marks the beginning of a series of programs designed to empower communities and individuals to raise social, cultural, environmental, and creative issues. As the first host, Ruang & Tempo reaffirms its role as a hub for collaboration and social innovation.

The highlight of the event was a book discussion on “Yang Terlupakan dan Dilupakan,” a women-led anthology featuring Indonesian writers including Dhianita Kusuma Pertiwi. The book revisits the stories of women often erased from historical and social narratives, encouraging readers to reflect on how collective memory is shaped by gender bias.

The discussion was moderated by Humaira Fathiyannisa, Managing Editor of Kok Bisa, and featured speakers from the Ruang Perempuan dan Tulisan community—Dewi Noviami and Dewi Kharsima Michellia—who shared their perspectives on women’s courage to write, read, and speak up. Supported by ABCD Coffee, the session offered a warm and open atmosphere for participants to exchange ideas and build understanding.

OID’s inaugural edition also forms part of the #10Hari100Kebaikan (10 Days, 100 Acts of Goodness) campaign, a movement encouraging collaboration among communities and social initiatives. The event contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

• SDG 5 – Gender Equality, by expanding women’s participation in public spaces;
• SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, by fostering inclusive dialogue; and
• SDG 4 – Quality Education, through the promotion of critical literacy and a culture of reading.

Participants described the launch as an eye-opening experience that redefined the meaning of equality. Many left with the realization that social change begins in small, intentional spaces—through the simple acts of speaking, writing, and listening.

Through this collaboration, Ruang & Tempo and Ruang Perempuan dan Tulisan reaffirm that Kartini Day is not only a celebration of history, but a call to action for the present: to build spaces that are fair, inclusive, and equal. Open Initiatives Day: Kini Setara stands as a symbol that change begins in small rooms—and that every voice matters in rewriting the story of equality.
