Kekini Ruang Bersama is now officially an affiliate of Ruang & Initiatives Hub: the launch was inaugurated with a discussion on "Ecological Echoes."
Jakarta, September 12, 2025 — As part of an ongoing effort to expand collaborative networks addressing social and environmental issues, Kekini Ruang Bersama was officially launched as the first Affiliation Hub of Ruang & Initiatives.
The launch was marked by a public discussion titled “Gema Ekologis: Suara Adat di Tengah Luka Sosial dan Alam” (Ecological Echoes: Indigenous Voices Amid Social and Environmental Wounds), co-initiated by Kekini Ruang Bersama in partnership with Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN), Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI), and Indonesia untuk Kemanusiaan (IKA).
Held at Kekini Ruang Bersama in Jakarta, the event drew over 30 participants from diverse backgrounds—including social activists, academics, indigenous communities, and students—who came together to explore the vital role of indigenous peoples in maintaining harmony between humanity and nature.
The “Gema Ekologis” discussion delved into the deep connections between environmental crises and social inequality still experienced by many indigenous communities across Indonesia. Speakers from AMAN, WALHI, and IKA emphasized how indigenous voices and traditional ecological knowledge are often overlooked in development policies, despite their strong foundations in ecosystem sustainability and cultural resilience.
The conversation unfolded in an atmosphere of warmth and reflection, with participants actively sharing perspectives on how indigenous practices could inspire community-based climate solutions. The dialogue sparked a renewed awareness that environmental conservation cannot be separated from the preservation of local culture and identity.
As an Affiliation Hub of Ruang & Initiatives, Kekini Ruang Bersama serves as a collaborative space that connects diverse social, cultural, and environmental movements. Its establishment marks a significant step in strengthening inter-community networks to build a broader, more impactful system of collaboration. Acting as a bridge between individuals, organizations, and civil society movements, Kekini aims to foster solutions grounded in empathy, creativity, and sustainability.
This initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- Climate Action (SDG 13) — by promoting public awareness of community-based mitigation and adaptation efforts; and
- Life on Land (SDG 15) — by reaffirming the role of indigenous communities in protecting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.
The launch of Kekini Ruang Bersama stands as a concrete step toward cross-sector collaboration for sustainability and ecological justice. As part of the growing Ruang & Initiatives ecosystem, Kekini is envisioned to inspire more spaces across Indonesia to become incubators for ideas and collective action—for the planet, for people, and for a more equitable future.
