Strengthening Young People's Social Science Literacy Through the Kok-Bisa? Collaboration, Ministry of Future, Mindworks, and Ruang & Tempo
Jakarta, 1 November 2025. The Open Initiatives Day (OID) program once again provided a multidisciplinary learning space by collaborating with Kok-Bisa?, Ministry of Future, Mindworks.id, and Ruang & Tempo in an interactive discussion on understanding the science behind social change and collective action.
The event featured four young speakers from diverse backgrounds: Juris Bramantyo (Kawula.17), Alya Eka Khairunnisa, Adit Mkm (Literacy Activist), and M. Faqih Akbar (Kok-Bisa?). A total of 50 participants including young journalists, environmental activists, creative workers, students, community organizers, and young professionals actively engaged in discussions exploring the relationship between science, social behavior, and pathways to change.
The discussion opened with an overview of the importance of social science literacy in addressing contemporary challenges such as misinformation, the climate crisis, and shifts in digital culture. Each speaker contributed unique perspectives, ranging from behavioral research and creative communication to grassroots advocacy.
Participants were encouraged to examine everyday concerns such as air pollution, social injustice, and the vulnerabilities faced by minority groups through a scientific lens that helps map causes and effects and identify strategic steps for action.
One of the most anticipated sessions was the exclusive screening of an unreleased Kok-Bisa? episode. Through this screening, participants observed how visual storytelling can serve as a bridge between science, education, and public engagement. The watch session sparked reflective discussions on how scientific content can be crafted to be engaging, accessible, and widely impactful.
Beyond the main discussion, participants joined a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to map their individual social concerns and transform them into actionable steps. This session revealed strengthened understanding across social, economic, and environmental issues; improved ability to identify tangible actions within their communities; and the formation of an inclusive dialogue space that encouraged empathy and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The FGD became a safe platform for participants to share perspectives, exchange ideas, and shape small but significant action plans.
The collaboration between Kok-Bisa?, Ministry of Future, Mindworks.id, and Ruang & Tempo reinforces OID’s position as a platform capable of bringing together knowledge, creativity, and public participation in one space. This program directly supports sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 4 Quality Education (literacy and lifelong learning), SDG 13 Climate Action, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals. OID continues to encourage young people to integrate science, empathy, and collective action in addressing future challenges.
